Write a letter of support for Inchelium Skatepark

March 27, 2022

The Boys & Girls Club of Inchelium is collecting letters of support to include in a grant application for a proposed skatepark. Writing a letter is one of the easiest and most helpful ways to get involved and show your support! Each letter makes a difference, and we need as many letters as possible.

Guidelines

  • The letter should explain why you want to see a skatepark in Inchelium.
  • Everyone is encouraged to submit a letter — kids, grown-ups, and businesses.
  • You don't have to live in Inchelium, you just have to care about the community.
  • Please include a name, age (if you're under 18), and city.
  • Kids are welcome to draw a picture and get creative.
  • Letters must be received by April 29, 2022.

How to submit

Send your letter to:

Submissions may also be sent to hello@incheliumskatepark.com. You can type an email, attach a PDF, or send photos or scans of a handwritten letter.

Example letters of support

Need inspiration to get started? Check out our sample letter of support below, and read this great example from a skatepark fan.

Letter template

We encourage you to be creative and write your own story, from your own point of view. You can also draw what a skatepark means to you.

We love to see your unique stories and drawings, but you may also start a letter from this template — we need all the support we can get, and signing your name on a letter shows you support this skatepark.

Subject: Inchelium Skatepark support

I am writing in support of the Inchelium Skatepark project.

Inchelium is located in the remote mountains of Northeast Washington State, on the easternmost side of the 1.4 million-acre Colville Indian Reservation. Although surrounded by natural beauty, the area lacks safe and properly developed outdoor recreational facilities for kids. The closest skatepark on the reservation is 87 miles away in the city of Omak, a two-hour drive over three mountain passes.

Local roads are narrow, and lack shoulders or proper sidewalks for children to walk, run, bike, or skate safely. This is a formula that puts area youth at risk of injury and discourages healthy outdoor activity.

Positive points for the Inchelium Skatepark:

  • Skateparks in rural areas have proven to be beneficial to the health and wellness of their communities.
  • The proposed location is visible and convenient, adjacent to the soon-to-be developed Wellness Center. It's near the Inchelium School Complex, and near the existing Community Center that houses the Boys & Girls Club.
  • Kids from other towns could do field trips with Boys & Girls Clubs to visit the skatepark.
  • The draft skatepark design has a concrete sturgeon-nose canoe as a centerpiece to do tricks on. This is an educational component for kids to learn about the community's heritage.
  • The land for the skatepark is already owned by the Tribe, and a required Cultural Resources report has already been completed.

I fully support the Inchelium Skatepark project and look forward to seeing it succeed.

Sincerely,

hello@incheliumskatepark.com
